Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb sliced button mushrooms
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon minced ginger
  • 2 tablespoons light soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon dark soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons peanut oil
  • 4 dried Chinese chili peppers
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 green onions, sliced

Instructions

  1. Mix the sauce ingredients (vegetable broth, soy sauces, sugar, black pepper, sesame oil) in a bowl.
  2. Combine cornstarch and water in another bowl to create the slurry.
  3. Steam broccoli for 1 minute in boiling water; set aside.
  4. Sear mushrooms in peanut oil over high heat until browned.
  5. Add garlic, ginger, and chili peppers; stir until fragrant.
  6. Return broccoli to the skillet, add sauce mixture, and cook briefly before stirring in the slurry until thickened.
