  • 1 tablespoon avocado or vegetable oil
  • ½ pound ground turkey
  • ½ pound ground beef
  • 1 onion (diced)
  • 6 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 (14 oz can) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (6 oz can) tomato paste
  • 1 (14 oz can) tomato sauce
  • 2 1/2 cups chicken broth (low sodium)
  • 1 teaspoon fennel seeds
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 8 oz mozzarella (shredded)
  • ½ cup Parmesan cheese (grated)
  • 1/2 cup fresh parsley (chopped)

Instructions

  1. In a large heavy-bottom pot, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add ground turkey, ground beef, and diced onion. Cook until browned and onion is translucent, about 8 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and sauté until fragrant.
  2. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, chicken broth, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and fennel seeds to the pot. Bring to a boil then reduce heat to simmer for 20 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in mozzarella and Parmesan until melted. Serve hot garnished with fresh parsley.
